In my last article on volleyball, I went over some basic tips
that will help you improve your game. But for anyone who's never played
volleyball, you may be wondering what the fuss is all about. With all
the sports out there from which to choose, why pick volleyball?
As
a long-time player, both indoors and outdoors, I'm always excited when
people want to start playing this exciting sport, and I'm always happy
when they see how fast they can improve their game. So this article is
for those who have never played, but who are interested in learning more
about the sport. Here are just a few reasons why you should lace up
your volleyball shoes and hit the court!
1. It can be played all year round.
Unlike outdoor-only sports, which may be limited by the weather, volleyball can be played either indoors or outdoors. This means that when the weather's great, you can be outside enjoying it, and if it's not so nice, you can still play indoors.
2. People of all ages can play.
No matter how young or how old you are, there's a volleyball group for you. Just search around your local area and you'll be sure to find someone of your age and skill level getting their game on.
3. People of all skill levels can play.
Just like you can be any age to play, you can get into this game no matter what your skill level - or overall athletic ability level - is. Everyone who has ever played the game started as a beginner, so don't be put off by the fact that the only time you ever played before was in the sixth grade. Remember, it's never too late to start!
4. If you're differently-abled, you can get involved with the up-and-coming sport of sitting volleyball.
While sitting volleyball may be newer to your area, the odds are good that you can find someone running classes or leagues in sitting volleyball. For more information on sitting volleyball, you can check out http://www.sittingvolleyball.org/, and if you're interested in learning more about both indoor and outdoor volleyball in the United States, http://www.usavolleyball.org is a good place to start.
I've listed just a few of the reasons why you should give volleyball a try, but the best reason to start playing is because volleyball is a whole lot of fun!
