Volleyball Drills - 3 Volleyball Drills to Improve Your Skills


If you are the coach of a volleyball team, then you should constantly look for new volleyball drills to use in practices. Volleyball drills are a great way to get your team in shape for their next big game. Drills make sure the player is fit, and ready for whatever occurs in a game, and makes sure all the players are on their toes.
Sometimes drills get old and outdated. Players get sick of doing the same old things in practice. With this in mind, here are a few new drills to try at your next practice. A few things should be kept in mind when you are selecting a drill.
First, your selection will depend on what time of the season you are in. If the season just began, you may want to go easy on your players, but if it is in the middle, then give them all you have. The same goes for what time you are at in your practice. As the practice comes to a finish, you may want to design your practice so that there some practices are easier than others. It is important as a coach to take time to get to know your team and their individual abilities so that you do not overwork or injure them.
The first volleyball drill that you can incorporate into your next practice is called 'X marks the spot'. Begin by marking six or seven X's with colored tape on both sides of the net. Every player can take two-minute turns to try and serve to hit one of these X's. Obviously, the more X's you hit, the better you did at the drill. Allow players to start off slow and then make them go faster as the drill progresses. This drill helps players improve their concentration, serves, and accuracy, making it great for all types of players.
The next volleyball drill is similar to the previous one, but it helps players maximize their sets. Using those same X's, players must try and set a ball to hit them. Think of the X's as players and that you want to set a player up to hit the ball. The better one gets at this, the more points you will see your team rake in.
The third volleyball drill you can try with your team is called 'war of one'. It is great for making your team learn how to defend themselves. You simply ask players to set a ball and then do their best to not let the ball hit the ground; they must keep it up in the air at all times. They can use all of their skills including, digging, diving, and bumping the ball every time it comes down. The person that can keep the ball up the longest wins this drill.
Now that you have a few new drills to try, go and use them in your practice. Your team will be ready for the championship in no time. Remember, good volleyball drills are the key to every team's success.
