Beach Volleyball Rules

Knowing the rules of beach volleyball is the first step to being able to play well.  Don't make the mistake of assuming you know the rules before you step on the sand.  If you play indoors you have a lot to learn before you can play at the beach.
What should I know before playing sand volleyball?
- You can never ever set the serve.  Don't ever try to set the serve.  If the serve is coming at your head make sure your hands are touching and let it bounce off of your palms.
- Don't tip the ball.  You cannot open hand tip the ball.  You must learn how to do roll shots that come off your palm and not your finger tips.  You can also use your knuckles to hit it over.
- If you throw the ball up in the air to serve and catch it without hitting it, you lose that point.
- Don't bring your indoor set to the sand, leave inside where it belongs.  The setting is a lot cleaner at the beach so loosen up those fingers, hands and wrist so you can set a clean ball.
- You can't side set over the net.  If you set over the net you must do so directly in front or behind you.
- Don't set so far off the net.  There aren't three blockers up, only 1 will be there at the most.  The set will be a little tighter than you are used to but not ever tight enough for the blocker to reach.
