How to Conduct Volleyball Practice Drills to Get Their Attention


When doing practice drills, you have to keep it interesting by changing it up each time, and working on different skills. Have the team split in two groups of two and serve to each other over the net and the other one return the serve. Have them change it up after so many repetitions.
Incorporate some exercises in that will help build their skills like dancing to work on foot work. It is easy to get them involved with music and paying attention to foot moves. Explain how they need to find their own rhythm when playing volleyball.
Body conditioning is an important part of volleyball. So some days should be devoted to this. Squats, lateral steps, and jumping can be worked on here. Music can be used to make this more fun for the team. Strength training is also important for the arms and legs for power slams, and high jumps.
There are so many drills and exercises that you can do to keep it interesting and still work on the core training needs. Look at your teams needs what they are lacking in their skills and target those skill areas. Practices should include two to three skills to focus on. Also they should split up into two teams and play against each other. This helps them get used to the rotation, and what they should be doing.
They need to learn communication skills, so that they can read the face and body signals of their team mates. Have teams of four take the court, and have each team lay on the ground. You throw the ball and they have to get up and hit it over the net before it hits the ground. This builds speed, competitive spirit, and accuracy.
You can find many drills on the internet, or in books. The important thing is to make sure your team can play to win. Keeping them interested and involved will get you there.
